April 2017 Presidents Corner

Good Afternoon Members,

Many families are back from “Spring Break” and catching up on all those tasks they escaped from for a week. Yes, morning sun rises were awesome by the warm water and beach sand…but back to work we must go! We are now in the home stretch of the school year.

Our chapter completed a yearlong plan for the Region 1 Leadership Conference to be attended by all 16 Chapters in PMI’s Region 1. Through the dedicated efforts of well over 20 Volunteers, our chapter hosted 130 Chapter leaders, sponsors and pmi goc resources in a 2.5 days of strategic and leadership presentations at the Valley River Inn, Eugene, Oregon. Our final registrant tally exceeded 135 attendees. The Chapter that had to travel the furthest was the Alaskan Chapter whose Volunteer leaders traveled 1,600+ air miles.

With this Leadership conference in our own backyard, the Willamette Valley PMI chapter encouraged Volunteers to take advantage of the opportunity to give back through Volunteerism and to attend Leadership sessions focused on Strategic Business, Leadership and Volunteer retention. With the conference supporting three educational tracks, well over 50 hours of professional grade PDUs were delivered. Each attendee was able to pick and choose which sessions best supported their professional and career needs.

Our Thanks to the PMIWV volunteers managed by Laura Meeks of the Corvallis chapter, our Regional Mentor John Naughton, pmi goc resources and our sponsors. The 2018 R! Leadership conference will be hosted by Portland PMI chapter.

As the Leadership conference came to a close, our chapter was eagerly completing the final coordination for our 2017 Spring CAPM/PMP exam prep sessions in Corvallis. Our Salem and Corvallis branches coordinated the 12 week session’s logistics to reduce individual volunteer stress. The first of 12 weekly sessions begin Wednesday, 12 April 2017 at the Corvallis HP facility. If interested please contact the Corvallis VP of Educational, Michael Miles vpeducation.corvalli@pmiwv.org , for details or if seating is available.

This year our Willamette Valley PMI Chapter celebrates its 20th anniversary by our past-president, Gary Terrell, speaking at each Branch during the May Branch meetings. Please make plans to hear Gary speak. Check our website for locations, dates and times. www.pmiwv.org .

Traditionally our branches take the June, July and August off in order to enjoy family and the opportunity to travel. The Chapter board will meet on a monthly basis in order to prepare for the Strategic Planning session at August. This planning session will update our multi-year plan and all members are encouraged to attend. This is the opportunity for Leadership to prioritize our funding and support for the events you our membership have requested through our survey. Look for details on our website. If you plan to attend please email me so we can arrange space.

As we each work to reduce stress and improve home and work life, let us consider this quote, “Whatever the problem, be part of the solution. Don’t just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles” Tina Fey, Bossypants

See you at an April meeting…Take Care Clyde
