Happy New Year to each of our members from your Chapter Board of Directors. No matter what the language you call your own, please continue to enjoy the holidays in any way that brings your peace and joy!

Here are a few of the special days to acknowledge in January...

1 January… “Global Family Day” grew out of the 1997 UN general assembly resolution for, “International year of Culture, Peace and Non Violence for the Children of the World” A day set aside for families to gather and welcome the New Year together.

2 January… “National Motivation and Inspiration Day” grew from the national pride experienced after the terror attack on New York of 11 Sept 2001. To paraphrase Bradley Whitford’s quote, “…infuse your life with action. Do not wait for it. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope…”

11 January… “National Learn your name in Morse Code” day. We give credit for the development of Morse code to Samuel F.B.  Morse. Morse Code is still utilized by Amateur Radio operators around the world and in military communications. Morse Code was first demonstrated on 11 Jan 1838. We however do not know to whom credit goes to for this celebration. Happy  -. . .--  Year!

13 January… Willamette Valley PMI Chapter Leadership meeting is held at the Best Western Prairie Inn, Albany, OR. All Chapter members are invited to email president@pmiwv.org before 5 Jan in order to arrange spaces and snacks. Chapter Leaders will discuss important agenda items for 2018 and beyond. Space is limited so advance arrangements must be made to accommodate.

17 January… Only 60 days until our Chapter’s professional training for registered CAPM/PMP exam prep Instructor’s class 17 March. This is a one day no-charge professional training session for the 6th edition PMBOK, 6th edition Velociteach materials, our Chapter’s teaching plan approved by Directors and PMI Global. Please register at our events section on the webpage www.pmiwv.org before 1 March to ensure space. Seating is limited. Questions please email president@pmiwv.org today…

23 January… “National Handwriting Day” was invented by the Writing Instrument Association in 1977. 23 January was selected as the date so it would commemorate the first to sign of the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock’s birthday. John Hancock was voted to have the worst writing of any to sign. In many schools today, handwriting is an optional class that many student do not opt to take.

I and the Chapter Leadership say “Thanks” to all those who made time to attend our Annual Chapter Business meeting in December. In spite of the family and work commitments, many were able to attend. One of the items on our Transition meeting agenda will be to consider a different date for annual meeting so as not to compete with holiday festivities.

As our family and friends ripped through presents tossing paper in all directions, I realized how so fortunate I am to have family and friends I can rely on. We opened presents, broke bread together and in most cases cleaned up the meal leftovers together. Work that seemed like fun with all the joking and fun during that task. Yes...there was that one spoon that took a trip down the disposal and the ham bone the black Lab, Denali, borrowed from the table…but it all worked out in the wash.

If you are planning to sit for the 5th ed. CAPM/PMP certification exam please consider this…

Our Chapter has a few sets of barely used 5th edition Velociteach All-In-One student kits for a reasonable price.  We also have a number of 5th edition barely used PMBOKs for a reasonable price
