Your Guide to PMI Oregon
This page is a dedicated resource for PMI Willamette Valley members as we navigate the proposed dissolution of PMIWV and the potential transition to a single, statewide chapter known as PMI Oregon.
The information shared here reflects ongoing conversations and early-stage planning. Nothing is finalized, and details are still evolving as discussions continue. Please read this as a working overview rather than a set of fixed decisions.
Here you will find information on why this change is being considered and what it may mean for PMIWV members. As shared in recent communications, ongoing structural and sustainability challenges have made it increasingly difficult for a small, volunteer-led chapter like PMIWV to continue operating effectively.
Exploring a statewide model was intended to create a more sustainable path forward, one that reduces administrative burden, better supports engagement, and preserves the relationships and community built over time.
Our goal is to ensure members have clear, transparent information as they consider the path ahead.
Why it
matters
We help you grow your leadership skills while reducing overhead so you can focus on making an impact. You’ll have more opportunities to network and develop professionally, and your region will be fairly represented.
Who is included
This chapter is for PMI Willamette Valley and Portland members and volunteers who want to connect, grow, and contribute. It includes new statewide board and branch directors, as well as members not yet represented in Oregon, so everyone has a voice and access to opportunities.
What to expect
We’re forming a single chapter, PMI Oregon, uniting members across the state. Branches are modernized to make participation easier, and all programs, events, and certifications will continue so you keep access to what matters most.
Where it happens
PMI Oregon covers all of Oregon, so you can participate no matter where you are. Regional and local events, plus virtual resources, keep you connected from anywhere.
How it
works
The transition to PMI Oregon follows a clear timeline for a smooth launch. Elected board and branch directors will guide the chapter, and all members, dues, and programs will be retained so you keep your benefits.
Focused FAQ
Updated 2026-04-22
1. Overview and Purpose
Where does this project stand today?
PMI Oregon is still in the concept stage. PMIWV and PMI Portland are actively discussing what a potential statewide chapter could look like and how it might better serve members across Oregon.
Why are PMI Willamette Valley and PMI Portland transitioning into PMI Oregon?
- The nature of virtual work means that both Chapters are already drawing leadership talent from across the State of Oregon, creating confusion and overlap for members.
- PMI's New Membership Model is going to force changes in 2027 that will further empower a single-chapter model.
- Portland's strong leadership pipeline + Willamette Valley's understanding of how to localize member support create powerful opportunities for all members in Oregon, regardless of proximity to Portland.
Is this a merger or the creation of a completely new chapter?
The process will involve a few key steps, including:
- Dissolution of PMI Willamette Valley
- Expansion of territory of PMI Portland, including territory in Oregon not yet claimed by either Chapter
- Renaming of PMI Portland to PMI Oregon
What is the official name and legal status of the new organization?
"PMI Oregon" is a codename for this project and the most likely name of the new, more equipped organization. PMI Oregon will remain a 501(c)6, just as all PMI Chapters are in the United States of America.
Even PMI Portland doesn't think we should be named PMI Portland any more... because we have leaders from across the state.
~PMI Portland President Angie Eastman during the 2025-10-18 PMIWV Annual General Meeting
When will PMI Oregon officially launch and begin operating?
Current timeline projections put PMI Oregon as a mid-to-late 2026 proposition; this may evolve based on many factors, including:
- PMI's ability to equip both Chapters with the additional resources required
- PMIWV's ability to communicate the value of the vote for dissolution
- PMI Portland's capacity to manage the complexities of the project

3. Branches and Geography
What are the branches within PMI Oregon, and how are they defined?
Branches for PMI Oregon are a work-in-progress.
Branches as defined by PMIWV are a way of the past.
PMI and other PMI Chapters have improved up Branch design and PMI Oregon will catch up, as well as challenge to improve, the design constraints of Branches.
- Branches tied to individual cities is largely unsustainable due to cost of management, even in locations like Portland, Salem, Bend, and Eugene.
- Branches tied to larger regions (the Coast, Willamette Valley, Central Oregon, etc.) are far more sustainable for local leaders.
- Virtual-only branches are more and more desired by members.
4. Membership and Benefits

5. Operations and Programs
What will happen to current programs, events, and professional development offerings?
All of these should increase! PMI Portland and PMIWV are actively collaborating on ways that members can realize the benefits of both Chapters, even before final votes are cast.
Further, the "high speed / low drag" model that PMI Portland has been iterating on will provide more opportunities by galvanizing local support on shorter time-tables, largely by reducing complexity of event planning.
That means more events, greater variety, and more chances to engage in a way that suits you best.
What happens to the current chapter assets, finances, and sponsors?
Financial resources have been set aside to facilitate conversations about the PMI Oregon transition, as well as empower local leaders to host gatherings of PMI or PMI-adjacent professionals.
Sponsors are already aware of the coming changes and will be updated regularly as the project evolves.
Chapter assets will be disbursed as needed, and in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws.
How will communications and websites be handled during the transition?
Communication is the largest gap at PMIWV today, and the one you can help with the most.
- Please update the email that you have on file with your PMI.org login. We know that ~50% of the Chapter members are not receiving emails. Check your spam and check your filtering.
- Check this page regularly
- Email [email protected] with your questions
- Talk with your project management friends about what's happening, even if they're not in PMI
6. Engagement and Opportunities
How can members get involved or volunteer during this transition?
Volunteer opportunities abound, especially for communicating the need for change.
- If you're unclear how you can help, feel free to email [email protected] at any time.
- If you and 3 PMI friends can get together, you have an opportunity to make change happen. Coffee clubs, an hour of professional development, inviting a Board Member to chat with you on Zoom - whatever you can dream up, we're willing to work towards!
